Have you heard that Wal-Mart is planning to offer a green-labeling system to its customers? I just found out this morning and wanted to share with you.
Wal-Mart recently announced that it will ask ALL of its 100,000 suppliers to give up details about their packaging, water use, air pollution, and any other factors that affect the environment. Once the data is collected, the company will work with environmental groups and scientists to develop a universal rating system. The green ratings will show up on labels in the aisles so customers can see the sustainability of each product and brand on the shelves. The rating system will likely take a few years to develop.
Wal-Mart is clearly taking huge steps to improve its public image and show a heavy focus on eco-friendly practices. The company has previously announced its plans to reduce energy consumption at stores, install compact fluorescent bulbs, and reduce its waste production. Maybe someday they will be a green company that uses the services of USA Green Jobs Now for is staffing needs and keep American jobs here Green and at home!
